In many ways this design celebrates the Danish tradition of “smørebrød”. Today, this tradition is still reflected in our daily lunch habits.
A modern take of an old classic cutting machine, this interconnecting cutting board and knife is used to thinly slice the Danish rye bread(“rugbrød”) to perfection.
The knife is designed, not only to slice the bread, but also to handle the special and specific toppings. The end result: a fusion between a butter knife and a bread knife.
The pattern on the wood for the partner cutting board is my visualization of rugbrød. By minimizing the guillotine mechanism of the original cutting machine, I have tried to create a product which places this tradition and functionality back into the modern homes once again.
